Almost hard to believe this. Rather than select a scion of the borough, or even an adopted child, who does the Downtown Partnership choose as the promotional voice of Brooklyn?
None other than -- pardon me, sirs and ladies, if your brains don't easily take this in -- Sir Ian McKellen, he of the Lord of Rings and King Lear Fame.
The choice of the knighted British actor fits the high artsy tone of the burgeoning BAM cultural district, as envisioned by the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. But there are many who think the selection (by said Partnership) also reflects a choice NOT to use someone with local creds.
Who knows? Maybe the Tories at the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership will try one day to give the whole area back to the Brits.
God save the Queen! Spike the Brooklyn guy named Spike! And to hell with the riff-raff being displaced by the Partnership's grand plans.
Read all about it, as reported in the mainstream (albeit tabloid) media.
