Brooklyn is sure taking on an old-town aura, what with cake sales and all.
Of course, the impetus for this bake-out is a traditionally Brooklyn one, seizing political power, progressive power. The impetus is also, shall we say, on the money.
The idea, according to MoveOn.org and the Clinton Hill blog, is to raise money for Barack Obama's bid for the White House, by selling tasty sweet things cooked by queens and kings of Kings.
The events are taking place Saturday and Sunday, with cookers expected to bring their wares to the announced locations and buyers expected to bring their dough (err, money) and their appetites.
Eat on!
No, that's not a terrorist slogan or a call to arms! Just a Brooklyn call to democracy.
[Here's a fuller list of Brooklyn bake sale places that we just received:]
Sunday, 9:00 AM Cortelyou Road & Argyle.
Saturday, 11:00 AM Clinton Ave. between Gates & Greene.
Sunday, 11:00 AM Sterling Place between Vanderbilt and Underhill.
Sunday, 12:00 PM Flatbush and Tilden avenues, outside Stop and Shop.

My grandfather used to tell me, "if something isn’t broke, than why fix it?" If referring to the short term financial assistance that payday lenders offer, things surely aren’t broken. In fact, customers highly appreciate payday lenders largely because, when used properly, they’re one of the fastest and safest ways out of a negative financial situation. Unfortunately, some people in high places don’t see it this way and are trying to fix something that isn’t broken. Several bipartisan efforts have outlawed the entire industry in certain states, to take aim at the whole industry. On November 4, don’t vote by party; vote for the one that respects our right to financial freedom.
