What? Lawyer Runs Against Assemblywoman Robinson and Someone Throws a Rock Through the Lawyer's Window?

Please say it isn't so.

Room Eight, the political blog, is saying that Cenceria Edwards [photo, left], a Bedford-Stuyvesant attorney, is running against longtime Bed-Stuy elected official Annette Robinson [photo, right]. She's a long shot but she's taking it seriously and has filed the required petitions.

And what happens?

Someone throws a rock through Edwards' window, shattering the glass and startling Edwards' 14-year-old daughter, a world champion chess player, who discovered the vandalism upon coming home.

The writer of the blog post, Rock Hackshaw, says he does not believe Robinson is capable of such vandalism but does accuse her going after Edwards' supporters in a high-handed if not tacky way. (Read the blog post.)

Robinson gained her seat in the State Assembly six ago (after she was term-limited out of another term on the City Council). In a musical chairs switch with an old ally, then Assemblyman Al Vann, she ran for his Assembly seat and he ran for her Council seat.

(There are no term limits in the Assembly, where Vann had represented Bed-Stuy since the 1970s.)

And now, with Vann and others being term-limited out of the Council next year, will Vann and Robinson pull a switcheroo again? Or will Vann simply retire?

But there are other more pressing issues at the moment.

One would hope that the allegation, or implication, expressed above isn't true, that someone supporting Robinson vandalized Edwards' home.

Surely all real proponents of Brooklyn democracy must be waiting for politicians to roundly condemn the alleged act against Edwards, and for the District Attorney, Charles Hynes, to investigate and prosecute, if it turns out to have occurred.

I was really disappointed to learn of the extent that an incumbent would go to subvert the democratic process and I was truly disappointed in Annette Robinson. I wish I could say that I was surprised. Instead of this long-time politician letting her "history of good works" speak for itself, she prefers to let rocks, excrement, and lies speak instead, and they speak volumnes. Cenceria, keep up the good fight.
