Here's a thoughtful note from a colleague, Milverton Wallace, who's writing and teaching journalism in England, transplanted from Jamaica where I met him years ago.
"Six days to go and the tension is becoming unbearable. Enough already! If Obama wins, on Nov. 5th there'll be dancing in the streets from Mombasa to Mumbai, from Kenya to Kingston, from the West bank to the South Bank. The problem will be how to put a lid on peoples' expectations.
"You hear British, French, German, Spanish people talking about what they expect to happen when "our candidate" wins. And nobody thinks that's crazy!"

the fact that the world is talking about our election is amazing. i am both hopeful, and a little worried at what an Obama presidency will mean for black people. will our expectations weigh too heavily on him? will he be judged any differently because he is the first?
i am just hopeful that we will have the courage & follow-through to vote for this man, to encourage him to lead us through this rough time.
