Over the past week or so, police and relatives of slain police officer Russell Timoshenko have been denouncing jury actions in the trials those accused in his death.
One of those in the car transporting the shooter was acquitted of murder, and another man in the vehicle (Lee Woods) had a mistrial declared in his case this week.
Now State Senator Eric Adams of Brooklyn [photo, left] is showing that the disappointment in the jury actions seems to be transcending race and political leanings.
"We cannot allow police officers to be shot in the street and not ensure that we receive justice for that. It sends the wrong message," Adams said.
Timoshenko was gunned down in Adams' Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood near Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
Adams, a former police lieutenant, has long been one of the city's harshest critics of police abuses and of police department policies in minority neighborhoods. Woods [photo, bottom right] is being held on Rikers Island pending decisions about his retrial.
