Okay, it's really a ticket rather than a token, but the point is clear -- that public transportation fares have soared in New York, and are continuing to zoom skyward.
How many times two and a half cents is two dollars and fifty cents?
Go ask your kid or grandkid.
Some folks -- no one on the MTA board, of course -- are saying they may not be able to afford the increase that is in the offing for New York City subway and bus riders.
By the way, this ticket comes to me from a high school buddy, John Rager, who's now living in Ottawa and who tells me it once belong to the (now deceased) uncle of his wife Barb.
"The ticket is probably for the first decade of the 1900's since the telegraphers' union membership card that was also in [Barb's uncle's] little leather billfold was from 1909," John wrote in a note to me.
1909. Ah, how a hundred years fly by. Ah, how prices soar when you have an public officials who don't have to worry about the increases!
