This is Mark Winston Griffith, the (relatively) young activist who is taking on Al Vann and attempting to end Vann's time-in-office that now spans 35 years.
Griffith has the backing of the Working Families Party and says he is running uphill in the effort to unseat Vann.
He also says Vann did great things during his career but that Vann's time has come and gone, and that most residents in the (Bed-Stuy) district want leadership that is more engaged.
He argues that Vann effectively, after a career spanning decades, is in retirement mode and not thinking full-time about the high needs of the community.
(We expect to offer some video of Vann giving his own take on some of these issues, hopefully in the coming hours. We already have Al Vann defending the integrity of his years in office.)
