The long and very exciting episode that began with more than half a dozen challengers aiming at incumbent Councilman Al Vann [photo, left], who's held elective office 35 years in Bed-Stuy, came to an abrupt end last night.
According to the Board of Elections Vann had about two thirds of the votes in the one-on-one battle against Mark Winston Griffith [photo, right], who had been backed by the Working Families Party.
Vann is saying that the campaign against him was marked by "lies and distortions" and said that "what goes around, comes around," indicating that he was very bitter, more so than he seemed to be during the actual campaign.
Meanwhile, Griffith's top people said that they had found a number of irregularities at voting places through the 36th Councilmanic District on election day, including Griffith levers that did not work and booths that apparently did not have his name.
And the beat goes on.

Well, the script continues to write itself. nuff said.
