I was traveling a bit after the announcement of Paul Ryan as VP. Opps. I mean VP candidate. (God help us.)
A group of women up front at the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 13 began chanting as Ryan tried to fire up the crowd.
Those women must not be Iowans or Wisconsinites, Ryan said, because Iowans and Wisconsinites respect each other and listen to each other. (Given Ryan's connections to Tea Partyers, it's kind of amazing he would say something like that, though the Republican Convention speech he gave showed he'll say anything at all.)
After police and others hauled the women off (gosh they were tough, those ladies. Wouldn't back down and kept trying to run to the front and chant), another group (this time guys, it seems) began shouting, Stop the war against the middle class!
This as Ryan was trying to make a joke about President Obama not being at the fair because he couldn't find his way, knowing only left turns.
Hecklers blew to pieces whatever humor there was in that one. Good time was had by all, it appears.
