All you have to do is see the 1949 movie "Home of the Brave" to have a sense of what African Americans went through during that war. My dad had similar tales, which will be related at a later time.

The point here is that, on this Veterans Day, he and others up there must be looking down in wonderment at the country they fought for.
The victory of Barack Obama was one that these men and women likely did not anticipate, even as they saw their aspirations soar in the Civil Rights era.
Rest in peace, dear Vets. These are indeed times of transformation for your country.
