Brooklynites continue to die in this war that has lasted longer than World War II.
We are left to ask, How much longer, Lord? How much longer?
It is, of course, young immigrants and other struggling working-class men and women who are induced to enlist in the military.
Young Brooklynites like Sergeant Kimmel Watt (pictured above), who immigrated from Jamaica when he was ten years old and lived in the East New York section of Brooklyn. He was killed on June 2nd in a roadside bombing in Iraq.
The frustrating thing, for those who want to see this war ended, is that our elected officials seem to be fiddling, doing nothing, while Iraq and the people there (including our young innocent soldiers) continue to burn.
The decision to begin this war amounts to a crime, in the minds of many Brooklynites. And many would be surprised to know that Yvette Clarke is one of the few U.S. Representatives taking a strong stand in this regard.
She stood out (among those Reps. who showed up at a Brooklyn Independent Democrats forum) for saying firmly that Bush and Cheney should be impeached for what they have done to the country. Hillary and Chuck Schumer did not even show up.
A great posting on this meeting was put up by the blogger Mole333 on the Daily Gotham blog. Mole 333, according to a self-description is a "Brooklyn research biologist in NYC. Married with two kids and one cat, living in Brooklyn."
Help us, Higher Power and Right-Hearted Bloggers, in these troubled times.
