Boy, NRP really nailed Cindy McCain [photo, left].
Truth be told, there was something snooty and insincere about her anyway. Take the time many weeks ago, when she took the stage and declared to a cheering audience that she was, yes, indeed, proud of her country.
She was trying, of course, to hurl a rock at Michelle Obama, who was being put through the ringer at that time for declaring that -- and we're kind of quoting her here, using the third person -- for the first time in her adult life, she was proud to be an American.
Michelle Obama's off-the-cuff remark was meant to reflect her astonishment, really, at the leaps her country had made since her childhood, when the thought of a black man, such as her husband Barack, making a serious run for the presidency was, well, ridiculous.
Michelle Obama's likely suspicions about Cindy McCain, that she was snooty and insincere, are now proven by NPR to be pretty accurate.
For now we learn that Cindy McCain is more than just a sniveling brat taking advantage of an opponent's bad moment.
Get this: Cindy McCain's assertions these past months -- that she is the only child of the late multi, multi millionaire Jim Hensley -- are, to tell the truth, false.
Her half sister Kathleen Kathleen Hensley Portalski [photo, right] blew the whistle on her.
Portalski (who admits to being a Democrat but says her problems with her half sister go way beyond politics) has lots of reasons to be upset with Cindy McCain. First of all, Cindy inherited all of Jim Hensley's money. (Kathleen got a pittance, even by my standards; and those are, believe me, very low standards).
More than that, Kathleen, who seems to be far more tender than Cindy McCain, suffered insult on top of injury when, upon her dad's death, the credit card he had given her was squashed.
Kathleen says she is especially bothered by the sheer arrogance of Cindy McCain, who is dismayed that the mainstream media, including The New York Times, has allowed Cindy to describe herself as the only daughter of the late money man Hensley.
One person, besides Cindy, who's benefited immensely from Hensley's decisions is Cindy's hubby John McCain, who is now so rich that he doesn't even know how many homes he has. (Barack Obama's people say the number is eight.)
Ah, to be married into wealth! Even if it has little character.
And now Cindy lets it be known that she takes umbrage with criticism of hubby's fuzzy arithmetic when it comes to counting houses (or, say, favors from Charles Keating or government handouts to oil companies, for that matter). Still, it comes as a great surprise to note that a known drug addict, drug thief, daughter of a bootlegger and -- worst of all -- "rodeo queen" who had an affair with a married man then in the process of abandoning his disabled wife for the sake of wealth and youth (think "family values") should be so easily offended.
