Brevoort Place is named after William Augustus Brevoort Coolidge (born August 28, 1850, in New York; died May 8, 1926). He was an historian, theologian, and mountaineer. He made one of the first systematic explorations of the Swiss, French, and Italian Alps.
[In this rare photo of him, together with other mountain climbers, Brevoort Coolidge is third from the right.]
