Sandford Street is named after Thomas Sandford (born in Westmoreland, Virginia in 1762; died December 10, 1808), an American soldier and politician who rose to the rank of General in the American War of Independence.
During his political career in Kentucky he was a state representative and senator, and then a representative in the Eighth and Ninth Congresses (1803-1807).
Sandford was married with two sons, and his family resided on his Kentucky land with about 30 slaves.
